things I love (story time).

A few years ago I started listening to the This American Life series on NPR and was instantly hooked. They pick a theme each week and tell a few stories pertaining to that theme. It's always really interesting...I generally learn something new...and it's a great way to get through long flights/drives/work days.

The newest ones were always available to download on iTunes, but when I plowed through them in a few days I thought I'd have to patiently wait to hear a new one each week.

Until I discovered they had an app. With over 500 shows, you will likely never run out of great episodes to listen to. The app has ALL the past episodes archived and available to stream. It's sort of the best thing ever.

Next time you have an hour, check one out. After one, I PROMISE you'll want to listen to all of them. Here are a few of my very favorites so far to get you started...

510: Fiasco!

414: Right to Remain Silent
509: It Says So Right Here
505: Use Only As Directed
504: How I Got Into College
494: Hit the Road
487-488: Harper High School
478: Red State Blue State
466: Blackjack

Enjoy!

people I love (happy birthday mom!)

Happy Happy HAPPY birthday to my very favorite mom. She's the busiest gal I know, and she's creative, smart and throws a darn good party! She makes a wicked Halloween costume, loves her pups (and usually her family!), goes on adventures, ziplines when she's afraid of heights, makes entire communities of people fall in love with her and is just the best lady around.

Happy Birthday Mom!

places I love (joshua tree pt. 2).

After some Palm Springs exploring we were off deeper into the desert for our REAL weekend adventure.

I had seen this amazing airbnb treasure a while back on someone's instagram and knew we HAD to get there. Jay and Stephanie's homesteader cabin has become increasingly popular (and I can see why) so when it was available over Thanksgiving we didn't hesitate for a second.

The weekend was exactly I had hoped. Wine in mugs, reading great books, a weird indie movie or two on Netflix, dirt roads, exploring the park, wandering around town, EPIC views, cold weather, campfires, s'mores, and sunsets to great playlists.

It's a place I'll definitely go again. And again.

If you are ever within 500 miles of Joshua Tree, go. No matter what.

places I love (joshua tree pt. 1 - palm springs).

If you know me at all, you shouldn't be surprised that I take advantage of every visit from my sister. We pick somewhere a little weird, pack up the car, and enjoy a weekend adventure whenever we can.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday we decided to venture west to Joshua Tree, CA. We found a quirky airbnb rental, threw our stuff in the trunk and hit the road.

Since we took about 9,000,000 photos, I thought I'd break this up into a couple posts.

On our way across the desert we had to stop in Palm Springs. We stopped at one of my favorite hotels, ate delicious lunch, and made some stops at Party*Lab and Dazzles (one of the craziest vintage shops I've ever been in). Check it out!

things I love (stuffing & pie).

You guys. How is it holiday season already? I feel like I just finished winding down from last year's festivities. It's the perfect time of year in Arizona, when it finally starts to cool off and feel like fall, family and friends all come back home for visits, and you can spend an entire day in the kitchen chatting and cooking. Which is exactly what my family did.

I made this killer stuffing (I used ground sweet italian sausage instead and about 1/4 loaf less of the bread)...trust me it's perfection. My sister defied logic and made the most beautiful pie I've ever seen (and it was her first pie...ever). We played cards, told stories and had a really, really great day.

Thanksgiving might be one of my favorite holidays. It's always such a treat to have everyone you love together sharing stories and delicious food.

I hope yours was filled with only good things. Happy Holidays!

^^so what if I'm the weird one in the family that jumps up mid-meal to run out front and take a photo of a special moment. you'll thank me later.^^
