things I love (THE mountain).

Some places stick with you.

Some you really have to see for yourself to understand.

I know my mom sometimes thinks I'm a little bit weird. I don't help my cause, falling in love with places like this

So when, on the way home from San Diego, I casually tossed out the idea of a quick adventure off route to Niland, CA so I could share some of my weird with her, I half expected her to laugh and go back to playing Words With Friends.

She thought about it for a second, and said, "Sure, why not!?".

45 minutes later we were driving down a dirt road in the middle.of.nowhere, rounding a corner and watching the rainbow colored Salvation Mountain come into view.

It's a pretty special place, made all the more special by the people who take care of it. A few years ago, my sister and I stopped at the mountain and were fortunate enough to be the only ones there. We hit the jackpot when we got to spend a few minutes chatting with Leonard. The quiet, quirky, mastermind behind the whole outpost.

Leonard passed away a month or so ago. His memorial service was the day before we got there. For being an old, odd man, he sure had a lot of friends who cared for him and his old, odd mountain. We should all be so lucky.

When my mom and I hopped out of the car, the magic was still there. People were buzzing around, taking pictures, exploring nooks and crannies, letting it sink in. Letting it stick with them.

As we headed back to civilization, the mountain fading into the background, my mom smiled and said "I'm so glad we went. That place was so cool!".

And I knew it would stick with her, too.

things I love (good old fashioned lady time).

I love any time I get with my family.

When your sister lives on a paradise island a lifetime away, that time is always not quite enough.

So when she has to be in southern California for work over her birthday weekend, you go. You grab your mom, make a playlist, and go (sorry dad!).

Girl time ensued.
We had coffee and donuts on the beach.
Sat by the fire and watched the sun set.
Made panda buddies at the zoo
Pretended to blow out candles.
Watched tennis. Lots of tennis.

It wasn't quite enough. But man, was it fun.

things I love (terrariums!).

In all fairness, I didn't always love terrariums. I didn't really give them any thought at all. But my favorite Phoenix gem, frances, was having a workshop...and as I usually react to such news, I called, booked a couple spots for me and a friend and figured no matter what it was going to be fun.

You guys. It was fun.

And I sort of love terrariums now.

I may or may not have immediately come home and googled where I could find a miniature teepee for my miniature gold club girl/pegasus duo to reside in.

Led by the brains behind Terrarian, a local mastermind of miniature, the class was the perfect way to spend an evening with a friend, make new crafty pals and try my hand at a gardening hobby I might not kill off immediately.

frances is always hosting really great events, so if you're in Phoenix, or visiting Phoenix, or even NEAR Phoenix, you should check out their event calendar

Trust me.

things I love (a great distraction // 4)

It's Friday! Woop! Here are my favorite weird things from the internet these days.

Hipster music math. Ha!

Jennifer Lawrence's BFF went to the Oscars as her date. And then blogged about it. And it was awesome.

My favorite resource for poufs and glitter launched a new line (of EVERYTHING) this week. It's all. so. good.

We've all seen this video at this point. But it's pretty amazing.

Think what you will. Between Two Ferns is awesome. This is awesome.

Okay, off on a road trip.

things I love (a great distraction // 3)

Someone please please please make this real.

I love a good coffee. And a good flow chart.

A particular kind of genius.

Two of my favorite things. Paper dolls and Scandal.

The latest Meg Fee. Whiskey and a Look. And it's real good.

This photography project.
